green-tea-coke_shiso-pepsi

Two days ago, Coca cola unveiled their new strange-yet-awesome combination drink, Green Tea flavored zero calorie Coca Cola plus in Japan. It contains something called Catechins that are supposed to help you not be fat or something. And Japanese women like to not be fat so they are banking on that fact. In about 2 weeks Pepsi will fire back with their own odd-yet-superb combination drink of their own, Pepsi Shiso, which incorporates Pepsi and a leaf called Shiso. All I know is that I need these two drinks in my belly, because as you all know, I love weird Japanese liquids entering my mouth!

One of the members of the insanely popular Japanese pop group SMAP, Kusanagi Tsuyoshi (草彅 剛) (34), was arrested on the morning of April 23 in a park in an area of Akasaka, Tokyo. Apparently he was drunk out of his mind and he was running around being belligerent to everyone in his path on top of screaming and making all kinds of unnecessary noise. But man, is he paying the price for it. Once the pitch man for the change to digital TV over in Japan, that job is now vacant. His face has also now been Read the rest of this entry »

hanaichimonme1

Hello and welcome to my Asian Restaurant Review, where I review some of the Asian restaurants I have been to in the greater Los Angeles area, or any area where I happen to come across a restaurant that serves the cuisine of Asia.

The place of subject will be a Ramen shop located in the Little Tokyo Square that’s been there for years called Hanaichimonme. Let’s break it down into syllables. Say it with me now: HA-NA-I-CHI-MON-ME. Here it is phonetically for the English speakers: HA-NA-E-CHEE-MOE-N-MAY.

I’ve been to this place many times before and I’ve always liked it for some reason. It’s definitely not for the Ramen which is decent but not great. I just recently went back to this place over the weekend after a long while and Read the rest of this entry »

naruto-naruto

Yes, you heard right. Series creator Masashi Kishimoto has confirmed that the character of Uzumaki Naruto is not of Jewish heritage, despite what all anime fans of the show/manga may have always thought.

But I kid.

Turns out, starting April 15th, Hulu and Joost, thanx to a deal with VIZ MEDIA, will offer uncut and English dubbed episodes of the popular anime series, Naruto. Now I knew they offered Naruto (ナルト) on Hulu and last I checked they were in English and didn’t offer Japanese subtitled episodes. Then I checked again recently and now they offer subtitled episodes in Japanese. And now Read the rest of this entry »

They even protested it and everything but apparently the story was never true to begin with. It was reported all over the Chinese internet that two of Japans biggest AV stars, one I know of, Aoi Sora (蒼井そら, pictured left) and one I’ve never heard of until now, Matsushima Kaede (松島かえで, pictured right), was to make a special appearance on the eve of a special a anniversary near a memorial of all places. But it looks like the story is completely bogus. This apparently pissed off Sora who wrote about it in her blog. How or why this got rumor got started is beyond me. Damn, and I had my bags packed and everything….

Hello all. And welcome to “Asian food item”, a section devoted to Asian food item’s of the world designed to help all of the unfamiliar become, well, familiar with the cuisine of Asia.

The first item is kind of off-putting, especially to many Americans who aren’t exactly used to eating raw foods.

Tamago Kake Gohan (卵掛けご飯) is a Japanese dish and it literally means “Egg over rice”. It is typically eaten for breakfast as it is painfully simple to Read the rest of this entry »

gokugoku

….and if you think about it, he isn’t Japanese either. DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION, the live action adaption of the immensely popular Japanese Manga/Anime series is about to hit theaters this week (although the lack of television commercials and reviews have me thinking it will see a release as dismal as the last Street Fighter movie. Ugh!), so naturally the Otaku are all abuzz about the similarities between the original show/comic and it’s movie counterpart. One of the most frequent arguments I hear is “Goku isn’t even Japanese” or “Why is Goku played by a white dude? Goku is Japanese?”. But if the fanboys and fangirls really sat down Read the rest of this entry »

utada-boa

BoA, a hugely popular Korean artist who made her transition to the Japanese market in 2001, made her American debut with her self titled album on March 17, 2009. It’s her twelfth studio album and her first English language album. Utada HIkaru (simply shortened to just “Utada” for the US market), gaining fame first in Japan in 1999, released her ninth studio album and third disc in the US titled “This Is The One” on March 24, 2009. But what’s that? You, the typical American music lover have never heard of BoA or Utada, despite both of them having just released new albums into the American music market? Exactly!

The promotion of these albums have been close to non-existent. I wonder why Read the rest of this entry »
