Yep, Warner Bros. (America) has acquired the rights to the immensely popular Japanese Manga series Death Note. I LOVED the Manga and I tolerated the Japanese live action adaption. I wonder who they chase after to direct this little gem. Let the casting rumors begin. One site I saw had already prematurely casted Zack Efron as the main character, Light Yagami (There will no doubt be a name change). Aside from the usual moans and groans, if you look at a side by side comparison of Light and Zack, I gotta say, it kinda looks right. Even down to the hairstyle. This should be quite interesting.

Here are two projects that please my Half-Breed sensibilities.

I’ve been watching promo’s for Disney•Pixar’s “Up” for sometime now. I have always loved Pixar’s work from the very beginning as have many other people around the world. It wasn’t till I watched a promo in HD, however, that I noticed something different and very interesting. That chubby little boy you see running around with the film’s main protagonist Carl, is, get this, Asian! I didn’t need an Read the rest of this entry »

2008_harry_potter_and_the_half_blood_prince_poster_001

The newest trailer for the 6th Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, was just released online and if you want my honest opinion, it looks phenomenal. And it looks like we get more Quidditch which is always cause for celebration. I enjoyed the 5th film but the director, David Yates may have done one better. At least it looks that way from the trailer. It will be released on July 15th simultaneously in the UK, Australia, the US and Canada, despite what the poster says.

Watch the brilliant trailer below. Be sure to watch it in full screen.

Wow, the Ghostbusters 3 news won’t stop. About a week ago Harold “Egon” Ramis was reported as saying the Rick “Louis Tully” Moranis would be starring in the next installment. Now, his teammate Dan “Ray” Aykroyd is saying that Sigourney “Dana” Weaver , despite being the only other member of the original cast to decline the invite to add her voice to the game, is apparently up for the film.

“She will definitely be in the third movie—we sure need her there, for sure.”

Who knows if all of this will come to fruition but if the guys want to keep talking, we’re all willing to listen. It also seems that Aykroyd likes the way he looks in the Wii version of the game because they made him look like one of the Incredibles.

Here’s the full Newsweek Interview with Dan Aykroyd:
Whatcha Gonna Play?

Here is some new box art for the game I just found. This looks amazing. June cannot get here quick enough:

They even protested it and everything but apparently the story was never true to begin with. It was reported all over the Chinese internet that two of Japans biggest AV stars, one I know of, Aoi Sora (蒼井そら, pictured left) and one I’ve never heard of until now, Matsushima Kaede (松島かえで, pictured right), was to make a special appearance on the eve of a special a anniversary near a memorial of all places. But it looks like the story is completely bogus. This apparently pissed off Sora who wrote about it in her blog. How or why this got rumor got started is beyond me. Damn, and I had my bags packed and everything….

….and if you think about it, he isn’t Japanese either. DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION, the live action adaption of the immensely popular Japanese Manga/Anime series is about to hit theaters this week (although the lack of television commercials and reviews have me thinking it will see a release as dismal as the last Street Fighter movie. Ugh!), so naturally the Otaku are all abuzz about the similarities between the original show/comic and it’s movie counterpart. One of the most frequent arguments I hear is “Goku isn’t even Japanese” or “Why is Goku played by a white dude? Goku is Japanese?”. But if the fanboys and fangirls really sat down Read the rest of this entry »

It is exciting times for a Ghostbuster fan such as myself. There seems to be new news for it every couple of weeks now. Here’s an excerpt from an interview with Harold “Egon” Ramis that Entertainment Weekly just ran:

“And yes, the original cast will return: Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis, and even the elusive Bill Murray. “Everybody said they’d do it,” says Ramis, who doesn’t intend to direct Ghostbusters III.”

The operative name there being “Rick Moranis”. Mr. Moranis has been on a kind of permanent hiatus from film making ever since Read the rest of this entry »

I have been a fan of South Korean directors Park Chan-wook and Bong Joon-ho for a while now. Park’s iconic film OLDBOY baited me while his quirky yet brutal short CUT hooked me. Similarly, Bong’s wonderful but wrongly advertised “Monster” film THE HOST instantly made me a fan but his film MEMORIES OF MURDER cinched it for me with every onscreen jump kick. Seriously, there is a lot of jump kicking in that one. Both of these director’s films can be classified as comedies wrapped in drama as each one provides as many laughs as they do gasp’s and winces. I look forward to every new work these guys put out and finally my wait is over……sort of.

Two new trailers have emerged, one for Park’s THIRST (박쥐), which is about Read the rest of this entry »
